Project Brainstorm Again
Compare elements of two
different texts. For example, explore the similarities and differences between
two characters in the text, or examine how one theme is handled in similar and
dissimilar ways in two different texts.
·
I read one of my classmates’ project work
and how she compared/contrasted two women from two different text. In reading,
I could see how both women stood and died for what they believed, although how
they came to their fate in the end was vastly different. This made want to look
at two different characters that may have the same struggles or victories,
however, seeing if their approach was different or similar. In reading Bartleby, The Scrivener, I could
see similarities between Bartleby and the Narrator of the story.
What does this work
reflect about its historical, social, political and/or economic context? You
may focus on race, class, power, cultural values and beliefs, historical
events, the author’s biography, gender, psychology, etc.
·
I am always interested in cultural values
and beliefs. In the reading of Olaudah Equiano, it is fascinating to me how
their cultural values were more civilized than those of European descent, yet we’ve
read in our history books that Africans were barbaric and unintelligent creatures
in desperate need of saving. This shows that our historical knowledge or may I
say lack of influenced the treatment and views of Africans to this day.
Think about a theme you
see running through your life (failure is the best lesson, love is eternal, etc.).
Choose a reading that you think also discusses this theme (even if it reaches
different conclusions about it). Explore connections between how the theme
plays out in your life, and how the theme gets played out in the reading.
·
I see many lessons throughout the stories
we have read thus far, but I am not sure which selection I will be analyzing yet.
I found myself again, connecting to Olaudah Equiano. His perseverance is
something I admired about him throughout the story and a lesson that I could
relate too.
Hi Tiffany! I like the way you organized your project brainstorm post. It made it extremely easy to read and understand. In reading your brainstorm post, I noticed that you seem to have a good understanding of what you want to do for each topic choice. By the looks of it, you seem to be leaning towards Olaudah Equiano. If you do choose to do his work, I feel that you will do an amazing job writing it out, considering you seem to have such a connection with him. I like how you chose comparing two elements of two different texts because you were influenced by another classmate's work. It is great that someone's work could influence you so much. With all the information and thought process you spoke about for each topic, you will do an amazing job at writing about whatever topic you chose. Great job and keep up the good work!
